PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Nylasint is a specially-processed porous nylon containing an interconnected micron-sized pore structure.  This

micro-porosity permits Nylasint to absorb and permanently retain fluids, 23 to 30% by volume.  This

formulation lends itself to a variety of fluid reservoir applications, most commonly oil or ink.


In general, the rules which apply to designing parts made of powdered metals apply to Nylasint sintered nylon

parts.  Profile parts can easily be produced and costly machining operations eliminated.


Machining specifications for Nylasint sintered pats generally follow procedures established for other thermo-

plastics.  Generated heat must be kept to a minimum; tools must be extremely sharp; liberal clearances are

recommended.  Normally, very high speeds used with relatively low feeds produce the best results.  Because of

the tenacious absorption of the fluid additive, the use of lubricants of coolants during machining is not

​necessary.  However, impregnation must take place prior to machining.

LUBRICANT RESERVOIRS

Nylasint can be impregnated with a variety of lubricants, enabling it to work well when machined as a wide range of fabricated shapes.

The tenacity to retain fluids has already proven successful in the manufacturing of specialty lubricant wicks, bearing cages, lubricant segments, and lightly-loaded bearings.

Ink rolls, blocks, and platens combined with a variety of non-drying, dyestuff-based inks are used as components in credit card imprinters, time clocks, impact and dot matrix printers, and ticket machines.

The fluid retention characteristics of Nylasint provide extended shelf life with virtually thousands of price impressions.

Because the density of Nylasint can be varied within a limited range, it has been found useful in the removal of low viscosity fluids in particular situations.

For example, water, certain solvents, and solutions have been removed from paper, film, and foil in production equipment using Nylasint.

FLUID REMOVAL

One cubic inch of this unique material possesses approximately 3,000 miles of pores.

Nylasint can be impregnated with any fluid considered compatible with nylon, retain the fluid under extreme stress conditions, and relinquish it ony when a high unit load or extreme heat is applied.
